Anodised surfaces

Anodising is a procedure to create a protective layer of oxide on aluminium by anodic oxidation. The technical term is therefore anodising and stems from the fact that the workpieces are always given anode polarity for this procedure. This anodic polarity is in contrast to the group of galvanic processes, where the workpieces are cathodically polarised.

The protective layer is formed by a conversion of the uppermost layer of the work piece resulting in a so-called oxide layer. This oxide layer thickness is between 5 and 250 µm depending on the voltage, duration, and other factors.

Anodised surfaces protect against corrosion of aluminium materials and allow individual surface design in different shades which can be selected.
